Fundraise for Esse House UK

The Climb: Goatfell

What to expect: Climbing Goatfell is one of the Isle of Arran’s most rewarding adventures, offering a blend of rugged mountain scenery and sweeping coastal views. Standing near a 900m from sea level, it’s the island’s highest peak and a favourite among walkers for its well‑trodden paths and dramatic granite ridges. Meeting at 11:15am, for a short safety briefing in the car-park of Arran Mountain Rescue Centre, a short walk from Brodick we will begin at 11:30am - following a clear route that gradually rises through woodland before opening onto wide moorland slopes. As you climb higher, the landscape becomes increasingly wild, with heather, juniper, and the chance to spot buzzards or even golden eagles soaring overhead. The final ascent is the most demanding, weaving steeply through granite boulders toward the summit cairn. On a clear day, the reward is spectacular: panoramic views stretching across Arran’s peaks, out to Jura and Ben Lomond, and even as far as Ireland. Following your descent, there will be a roaring fire ready, and a BBQ (with vegan options available) to refuel, before jumping on the last ferry back to the mainland and onward home. The entire climb and descent is projected to take between 3 and 4 hours.
