Who can apply for a grant from the Passport Fund?

Any trans or non-binary person over the age of 16 in the UK, who has applied for a passport within the last 3 months, or has a current application in progress. The parents or legal guardians of those under 16 may apply on their behalf.

How long does the process take?

From first application to grant award and payment - about four weeks.

What grants are available?

Tier 1 - full payment of £102 online adult passport fee  

Tier 2 - half payment of £62 toward £102 online adult passport fee.  

Tier 3 - full payment of £66.50 online child passport fee.

How are grants awarded?

Esse House UK is committed to assisting our community, and we will assess each application individually - taking into account your personal circumstances, income and other pertinent factors in our decision-making process.

How do you verify applicants?

You will be expected to attend a short webcam verification meeting that will take no more than ten minutes within two weeks of your application. We will ask to see proof of address, proof of your passport application and payment, and proof of income during this call. Please have this documentation to hand, or share in advance by attaching them to your application.

When will I know if I have been successful?

We will confirm if you have been successful in your application and what tier you have been granted, in writing, within one week of your verification meeting.

How will I be paid my passport grant?

Grant funds will be paid into your bank account or PayPal.

When will I receive my passport grant ?

We will pay your assigned grant within two weeks of the receipt of your new passport (or within two weeks of your award notification for retrospective applications.)
